Band Interview
From the City by the Bay, hailz Yigael's Wall, a solid example of Thrash Metal at it's best. The guitarist Vidavici, found me on Xpeeps, and I'm happy to have this band!!! I know there's more to every act than a CD, though, so I got the guys to fill me in on their background. How and when did you guys start? "We came together as a full, functioning unit in Jan of '07. Our first bassist, Devin, and I had been playing in another band that had fallen apart, and I decided to put together a new band from scratch, and brought him along. Shane, and then our first drummer Jason fell into place next." What are you guys all about? "The music. That's what we're all about. We just love Metal-always have. And the more brutal, the better. Just four guys playing the kind of music that we grew up with and that we love to hear. I can tell you what we're not about. Gimmicks! We don't have stage attire. No leather. No spikes. We don't spit blood. We just get up there in our street clothes and hammer out our brand of Metal the best we can. It's not about being the fastest, or the most evil or trying to shock anyone. It's just in your face brutal ass music ya'know. You either like it or not and that's ok." I have to respect you guys for saying all that!!! Given your loyalty to the music, what bands do you think you would go well with? "Wow, that's a good one. Well there's this band out of Tampa, FL called the Absence that we're all crazy about. We really get what those guys are trying to do. As for what band do we wish we could get a supporting slot with? For me, I'd have to say Lamb of God. I think that our two bands could bring down the roof on any venue. That would be fuckin' fun as Hell!" Nice choice!!! Who would you say is the bands' biggest influences? "Collectively I'd have to say Slayer, Pantera, Lamb of God and Black Sabbath." What bands do the guys listen to? "I (Vidavici) listen to a lot of stuff that the other guys aren't really crazy about. Like Dissection, The Forsaken, Dimmu Borger, old ass Ozzy. Curtis is really into the Haunted. Wes loves the Old School Thrash like Exodus and Testament. Shane is constantly cranking Trivium. When you take all that it's all gotta have something to do with shaping the Yigael's Wall sound." That is a diverse collection, I think you guys all brought it together well! How many CD's has Yigael's Wall released? "This one, Requiem For The Living, is our debut. We're gonna do a lot of gigging all the way through the summer and get right back in the studio to start on our next. That's what we're doing right now-writing for that. That's what I like best, to me it's more rewarding than the shows. I like to start out with an idea and then watching it develop into a completed song. It's cool. The other guys like the live stuff better and that's cool too." Thanks for that insight into your inner workings, guys, it's great to get some really personal and meaningful thoughts! The Metal scene is dead in some parts of the country, how do you find the scene in San Fran? How are the fans reacting to your shows? "Yeah, I know. Well I think it's gaining again. It never went away over here. It just went so far underground. There are still places to play over here and people that wanna hear real Metal. I wish it was bigger but ...especially for the kind of Metal we play. This is the place where thrash was pretty much born, ya' know. I mean there was a time when being from San Fran was a sign of quality. When we were kids, this place was the shit you know. But it's still cool. The fans here like what we do and we're happy that they pay attention." Again, very thought provoking. One more, what would you like to tell your fans? "Hmmm....let's see. I guess that I'd like to tell 'em that we're not gonna let them down. Never! They came to us because they liked a certain type of sound and attitude. That's who we are and that's the way that it is. End of story. If you like it stick around for the ride, 'cause it's only gonna get better. If not, you can go somewhere else ya' know. That's about it.
